As someone who’s always loved skateboarding, I wanted to capture that feeling in this 3D model. Built from the ground up in Maya, I paid special attention to the shape, balance, and the little details that make a skateboard feel authentic—like the worn grip tape, scuffed deck, and roughed-up wheels that tell a story of tricks and hard rides.
I used Arnold to bring out the textures and lighting, making sure the materials—wood, metal, rubber—felt true to life. The texturing process in Substance Painter was especially fun, where I could add layers of scratches, stickers, and personal touches to give the board a sense of character, like it’s seen its fair share of skateparks and streets.
The wheels and trucks were detailed to look functional but beat-up, just like how they end up after countless ollies and grinds. To top it off, I added a bit of flair in Photoshop, painting subtle details and highlighting the wear-and-tear from endless sessions.
